Cocktail Tutorial: Margarita

Margarita

The most popular cocktail in the USA and Mexico. Nowadays, variations using blended fruits (banana, strawberries etc) have gained popularity.

When serving a Margarita, remember to rim only half the glass with salt (the procedure of rimming the glass with salt / sugar is called 'frosting'), so that the customer has a choice of drinking the Margarita with / without the salt rim. From personal experience, the majority of customers did not like drinking a Margarita with salt.

Some bartenders like to frost the glasses of other cocktails (eg. cosmopolitan) with sugar, but most of the time they are for garnishing purposes only. It is not a good idea in regards to the taste of the cocktail, as it can over-sweeten the cocktail that is being garnished.
